BUTLER, GEORGE

George was also a son of Thomas Percy Butler and Elizabeth Ann Montgomery.

In 1944, George enlisted at the age of 17 in Toronto after hitching a ride from Dunchurch to Toronto. As George recalled, the enlisting officer didn’t believe him when he said he was 18 – but he did enlist.

In the fall of 1944, George was shipped to Holland where he was put in charge of the horses of the officers of the Royal Canadian Regiment. Lance Corporal George Butler returned home in the fall of 1946
